In Western tradition the rose is used in countless poems as a
metaphor for the beauty of the beloved. Roses were strewn about
Aphrodite's temples. Its equivalent in Egypt, India, Japan and China is
the lotus, its radiating petals a symbol of perfection. The orchid is an
emblem of refined beauty in China, whereas the more showy peony led to
its adoption as the royal flower. Another admired flower in China is the
camillia which symbolizes the beauty conferred by health.
Stones and crystals have attracted men and women since the beginnings
of time. Archeological digs and anthropological studies tell us that
ancient peoples believed stones, crystals and minerals had the power to
cure illnesses of the body and spirit. They also believed that they
could ward off undesirable elements and attract positive ones.
People who wish for fortune, wealth, health, happiness, and so on
believe that by wearing them or giving them to your friends or loved
ones, you inspire the power of the stones to bring good fortune, health
or protection to the wearer.
