The Straw
Market building, built originally in the 1920's, has a charm all its' own.
The downstairs, currently home to 50+ crafters and collectibles dealers,
was a machine shed. It stored all of the machinery needed to operate
Volo's oldest working farm. The upstairs was a brooding facility for
chickens.
Barb Evensen,
once a successful insurance underwriter no longer caring to make the long
commute to Chicago, made the decision to leave the rat race and go into
business for herself.
After many road trips to crafters malls near and far,
Barb decided on the format and design of the Mall's individual booths. She
began construction in May 2003. On July 1, 2004 she opened her doors to
the public. Now that she has a full house downstairs, Barb has recently
begun construction of more booths upstairs. The Grand Opening will be the
first weekend in December to correspond with the Volo Antique Malls Annual
Christmas Walk.
